The Power of Women’s Voices: The Story Behind a Documentary
At the screening held at the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Congress and Exhibition Hall, viewers witnessed the lives of women who took examinations to work at TRT Radio in the 1970s.
Intertwined with the social and political atmosphere of the period, the documentary explored the role of women in the industry and the challenges they faced.
Embarking on this historical journey, the audience watched the production—which carries the voice of the past into the present—with admiration, forming a strong emotional and intellectual connection.
A Journey into Oral History with the Directors
Following the screening, the directors of the documentary—Prof. Dr. Nazan Haydari, Prof. Dr. Özden Çankaya, and Dr. Cem Hakverdi—met with the audience to answer their questions.
Moderated by Prof. Dr. Senem Duruel Erkılıç, the discussion also featured Nursel Duruel, who worked at TRT Radio during the same period and shared her impressions of those years.
Originally conceived as an oral history project and later adapted for the big screen, the documentary is a unique work that brings together the voices and stories of women radio broadcasters and introduces them to audiences in Mersin.
