Filming Wraps on the Feature Documentary “The Heritage of Vine”
Filming has been completed for the feature-length documentary The Heritage of Vine, produced and directed by Ezgi Ay. The project received production support from the General Directorate of Cinema of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and was supported throughout its production process by the Mersin Film Office (MFO).
Since its establishment, the Mersin Film Office has provided consultation, coordination, and logistical support to filmmakers and production companies to establish Mersin as a leading filming destination. Through the projects it has supported, the Office continues to contribute to the development of the city's film industry. The Heritage of Vine marks a significant milestone as the first feature-length documentary supported by the Mersin Film Office.
Following nearly two years of research, preparation, and filming, production was completed in Çömelek, a neighbourhood of the Mut district in Mersin. More than just the story of a single family, the documentary explores the indigenous grape varieties unique to the Mut and Çömelek region, the area's rich viticultural heritage, and the grape-growing traditions passed down through generations. Through the language of cinema, the film documents Mersin's intangible cultural heritage and agricultural legacy, contributing to the preservation and transmission of these valuable traditions for future generations.
The Mersin Film Office continues to support productions that showcase the city's natural, cultural, and historical heritage through cinema. By encouraging stories rooted in Mersin, the Office aims to strengthen the city's presence in both the national and international film industry while helping local narratives reach audiences around the world.
