The Mersin Film Office, operating under the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, continues to support film projects by providing assistance in location development, resource management, and creative problem solving, while also guiding production teams through permit processes, city services, and logistics. Through these efforts, Mersin has emerged as a strong production hub for the film industry outside Istanbul.

The production process of Pivot, which was shot across various districts and regions of Mersin, has now been completed. It has been noted that Mersin’s sea, highlands, historical texture, and cultural richness contributed significantly to the film’s strong atmosphere, while the fact that the entire production was shot in the city also holds considerable value for promoting Mersin at the national and international levels.

Written by Melisa Önel and Feride Çiçekoğlu, the film is directed by Melisa Önel and produced by Alara Hamamcıoğlu, with cinematography by Meryem Yavuz. The film draws attention to its female-centered narrative and stars Öykü Karayel, Aysel Yıldırım, and Esma Yılmaz in leading roles. It tells the intersecting stories of three women with different life experiences.

Produced in coordination with the Mersin Film Office and realized as a Greek co-production, Pivot also received production support from the Directorate General of Cinema under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye. The production was further awarded within the scope of the “Future Filmmakers – Women’s Perspectives in Cinema” program in Taiwan.

The film, which aims for international circulation, is expected to gain visibility in Europe and the Asian market. In the future, it is planned to meet audiences at major international film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), Sundance Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, and Cannes Film Festival.

Pivot, which highlights Mersin’s natural, historical, and cultural assets through cinema, contributes to the city’s cultural and artistic promotion, once again demonstrating Mersin’s potential to become an important filming destination for international productions.
