Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Brings Cinema to the Seaside for Children with Up
As part of the Open-Air Cinema Nights program, through which Mersin Metropolitan Municipality brings cinema to summer evenings, a special screening was held for children. Organized by the Mersin Film Office, the beloved animated film Up was screened at an open-air cinema set up by the seaside, bringing children and their families together for a memorable evening.
As part of the event, which takes the cinematic experience to different parts of Mersin during the city’s summer nights, children enjoyed watching the film under the stars, accompanied by the sound of the sea. Before the screening, popcorn and ice cream were offered to the children, while families joined in to enjoy a pleasant summer evening by the seaside.
Bringing Cinema into the Life of the City
The Mersin Film Office, operating under the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs, continues its efforts to develop the city’s potential in the field of cinema, make cinema culture an integral part of urban life, and strengthen Mersin as a cinema city at both national and international levels.
Held as part of an approximately two-month program, the Open-Air Cinema Nights take cinema beyond the confines of traditional indoor theaters and into Mersin’s public spaces. During the program’s fourth screening, children and their families enjoyed an outdoor cinematic experience together with Up.
Reviving the Tradition of Summer Cinema
The open-air screenings organized by the Mersin Film Office bring the city’s longstanding summer cinema tradition back to life by combining it with contemporary viewing habits. Watching films together outdoors by the seaside brings audiences of different ages together around cinema while also helping children develop a strong connection with the art of cinema from an early age.
The screening of Up offered children and their families more than simply an opportunity to watch a film; it provided a chance to spend time together, share an experience, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of outdoor cinema.
This time, the big screen was set up by the Mersin seaside especially for children. Accompanied by the sound of the sea and the atmosphere of a summer evening, the screening came alive with children’s laughter, while the Open-Air Cinema Nights continue to bring new gatherings to Mersin’s cultural and artistic life throughout the summer.
